A blog? When did this get here?!

To be quite honest, I kind of forgot this blog existed…although it might as well not exist at all, for all the material I've posted. Which is to say, none.

Since my last post, I've actually managed to COMPLETE A NOVEL!! At least, I've finished the first draft of it. Second draft is causing me quite a bit more trouble than the first.

For those of you who are interested, here's a quick synopsis. For those of you who aren't, I'm going to talk about it anyways. Sorry.

Deep in the Arcellian woods, a secretive magic society protects the boundaries of their realm. This society, called the Order of Magic Keepers, is headed by the Enchantress, an all-powerful priestess who is not actually all she appears to be. (More on that character later; she's one of my favs. :) ) Maethya, the right-hand woman of this omniscient Enchantress, is the commander of Arcelli's military, and one of the most powerful Keepers in the kingdom.

However, for the past three years, Maethya (called Mae by her few friends) has not been herself. After the gruesome murder of her last apprentice, Kymio, Mae has become increasingly secluded and paranoid, and has convinced herself that she was somehow responsible for Kymio's death.

Then, out of the blue, a new apprentice is dropped into her lap; a boy so insolent, insubordinate, and utterly clueless about magic that Mae can't help but be distracted from her grief to discipline him. To make matters worse, this boy can't seem to help himself from poking about in her personal business. As he grows ever closer to uncovering the secret of Kymio's murder, he becomes hopelessly entangled the web of Arcellian politics, and fervently attacks the mystery shrouding his master's past, the Enchantress's deeply buried secret, and a dark power lurking in the neighboring kingdoms. As Arcelli's strange happenings turn even stranger, and the kingdom readies itself for the very worst, Maethya must learn to confront her past, battle an invulnerable enemy…and somehow convince her twelve-year-old apprentice to go to bed.

This is such a fun novel to write, and I love all the characters in it so much. The story itself needs a lot of work, but I have faith in these characters, and will do everything I can to tell their story to the best of my abilities. If you're at all interested, I comb through ALL the feedback that I'm given…harsh criticism is welcome and appreciated!
